Programs in Cambodia

Thanks to the funds from the sale of the ‘Soft Hands Kind Hearts’ hand cream sold through The Body Shop in 2009 and 2010, Child Wise have been able to support thousands of children and families in Cambodia who are vulnerable to or have been affected by child sex trafficking.

Check out some of the projects that we have implemented in Cambodia through finds from the campaign below:

 

Bamboo_Shoot_ProjectChildren are the Bamboo Shoot Project

The “Children are the Bamboo Shoot” Project aims to equip both children and key adults in 10 vulnerable school communities with the skills and resources to protect children from abuse and exploitation and to better support vulnerable children to stay in school. More information.

 


soup_kitchenCommunity Centre Project

The Community Centre Project provides 40 particularly poor children with one nutritious meal per day and a safe place for them to come and rest from their work. In the long term, the Soup Kitchen/Community Centre Project aims to provide the children and their families with safer and alternative livelihood options.

Children in our Community Centre Project also receive regular kickboxing lessons with the aim of providing them with a sense of community and support, to improve their self-esteem and to equip them with the tools and confidence to keep themselves safe from harm. More information.

The Community Enterprise Project aims to provide flexible and sustainable income avenues for poor and marginalised members of the community, with the aim of alleviating them from poverty and alleviating the pressure on their children to beg on the streets. More information.

 

 

 

TOTTeacher Training Project

The Teacher Training Project aims to train teachers how to understand, identify and respond to child abuse and to utilise this knowledge to protect children under their care throughout their teaching career. More information.

The Prevention of Child Sex Tourism Tuk Tuk Project recruits and trains tuk tuk drivers in Sihanoukville to promote child safe tourism, to identify and report suspicions of child sex tourism, and to encourage tourists to report any signs of abuse or exploitation of children. The First Step Project for Sexually Abused Boys aims to raise awareness about the prevalence of and myths related to the sexual abuse and exploitation of boys and to improve the quality of services provided to boys in Cambodia who have experienced sexual abuse or exploitation. TLCTransitional Living Centre

The Transitional Living Centre provides a safe place for girl survivors of sex trafficking to recover from their trauma and receive individualised support to enable them to rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society with the skills and confidence to sustain healthy, independent livelihoods.
