Wise Child (Primary) – Personal Safety Training Program
Aim of training:
This one day workshop will train school staff to deliver the Wise Child Program to primary school students. Wise Child is a whole of school approach to providing children and young people with practical empowerment and a resilience program which provides a comprehensive approach to educating children and young people. The training enables teachers, parents and carers how to assist children in identifying situations where they feel safe in order to differentiate when they feel unsafe and know how to seek assistance from trusted people.
Learning outcomes:
- Teaching children personal safety strategies which prevent and reduce the risks of child abuse and violence
- Encourage children to identify safe people or ‘networks’ of people in their community they can turn to when they feel unsafe
- Teach parents, teachers and caregivers to talk directly to children about personal safety and healthy sexual development
- Explore the process of “grooming” and the sex offender cycle
- Look at the laws and issues related to “sexting” and other internet concerns

- Building resilience in children & young people
- Helping children to identify feelings & situations of risk
- Provide children with strategies on how to manage potentially harmful situations
- Assist children to develop a “help” network
- Assertiveness
- Belief and trust in oneself
- Rights and corresponding responsibilities in relation to disclosures and Mandatory reporting requirements

Who should attend?
This training is particularly essential for primary schools, camps, childcare services, sporting organisations etc. There is also a two day Train the Trainer Workshop for people who wish to teach others how to deliver this program directly to children and young people.
